Weltpremiere! Das vierte Album der Düsseldorfer Krautrock-Heroen STREETMARK erstmals auf CD!

1969 kam STREETMARK in Düsseldorf zusammen. Beim Hamburger Sky-Label unterschrieb die Band 1975 einen Plattenvertrag, und im Oktober des selben Jahres fand sich die Band in der Besetzung Dorothea Raukes (Keyboards, Gesang), Hans Schweiß (Schlagzeug), Georg Buschmann (Gesang), Thomas Schreiber (Gitarre) und Wolfgang Westphal (Bass) im Studio ein, um ihr Debütalbum einzuspielen. "Nordland" erschien 1976 und erzielt gar beim ansonsten zurückhaltenden Magazin SOUNDS wohlwollende Aufmerksamkeit ("eine Mischung aus barocken Orgelschnörkeln und coolen Jazzspielereien"). Das Album enthielt mit der Beatles-Coverversion "Eleanor Rigby" gar einen veritablen Clubhit. Der Bekanntheitsgrad der Band stieg rasant an, trotzdem trennte man sich im Sommer 1976 von Buschmann und Westphal und stellte stattdessen Wolfgang Riechmann und den Bassisten Manfred Knauff ein. In dieser neuen Besetzung spielte STREETMARK 1977 das zweite Album "Eileen" ein, das sich als "vollkommende Synthese aus Elementen des Electronic-Rock, der Klassik, des Hardrock sowie von Funk und sinfonischen Tonkollagen" darstellte. Trotzdem verließ Wolfgang Riechmann zusammen mit Trommler Hans Schweiß die Band, um sein Soloalbum "Wunderbar" ebenfalls für Sky Records einzuspielen. Tragischerweise wurde Riechmann 1978 grundlos von Schlägern in der Düsseldorfer Altstadt angefallen und dermaßen mit dem Messer verletzt, dass er am 24. August seinen schweren Verletzungen erlag. Neu in der Band waren nun der Trommler Bogdan Skowronek und Gitarrist Winfried Kowallik, der aber bereits im gleichen Jahr nach einer langen Tour die Band in RIchtung OCTOPUS verließ. In der Besetzung Dorothea Raukes, Thomas Schreiber und Bogdan Skowronek, verstärkt durch Gastbassist Jürgen Pluta, gings Anfang 1979 wieder ins Studio, um unter der Regie von Conny Plank das dritte Album "Dry" einzuspielen. Es sollte ihr erfolgreichstes Album werden. Die Musik stellte sich als enorm spannungs- und abwechslungsreich dar. Starke Elektronik-Ausflüge, progressive Rock-Einschübe, melodische, fast orchestrale Passagen - dazu mit "Lovers" ein enorm tanzbarer Szenehit, der es gar in diverse Radiocharts brachte. Die Zukunft der Band sah nach der Veröffentlichung von "Dry" rosig aus, aber wieder einmal drehte sich das Besetzungskarussell. Anfang 1980 verließ auch Thomas Schreiber die Band, so dass nur noch Dorothea Raukes als einziges aktives Mitglied aus Anfangstagen verblieb.

Unterstützt von Stephan Jehring (Bass), Dickie Hank (Gitarre) und Drummer Bogdan Skowronek entstand mit "Sky Racer" 1981 das letzte Album von STREETMARK. Diese LP wurde 1980 erstmals nicht bei Conny Planck aufgenommen. Statt dessen wählte die Band die „Dierks-Studios“, in denen auch die „Scorpions“ und andere internationale Rock-Größen produziert haben. Ein weiterer Grund war der Wechsel von Jürgen Krämer zu den Dierks-Studios. Jürgen war der Leib- und Magen-Toningenieur der Band. Die Kompositionen spiegeln die vielfältigen musikalischen Richtungen der damaligen Zeit deutlich wider. Keyboardbetonte krauftvolle Songs mit elektronischer Verstärkung, dazu diese einprägsamen Melodien, immer ein Markenzeichen von Raukes & Co. Dem aufkommenden Trend der „Neuen Deutschen Welle“ wollte die Band nicht folgen. Das vorliegende Album wurde wieder von den Originalbändern gezogen und erscheint erstmals auf CD.

1981 fand dann auch die letzte Tour von STREETMARK statt, bei den letzten beiden Auftritten stieß auch wieder Gitarrist Thomas Schreiber zur Band. Gründungsmitglied Bernd Schreiber war eh bei sämtlichen Alben und Live-Konzerten der Band als Toningenieur mit an Bord gewesen. Nach der Tour verabschiedete sich auch Bandkopf Dorothea Raukes in ein bürgerliches Leben. 1990 veröffentlichte Sky Records mit "Dreams" noch einmal einen Zusammenschnitt aus den letzten drei Alben, das blieb das einzige Lebenszeichen von STREETMARK für viele Jahre. Vergessen ist die Band allerdings bis heute nicht!

Mit "Sky Racer" setzt Sireena Records seine erfolgreiche Serie mit Veröffentlichungen aus dem legendären SKY Records-Katalog fort. Weitere Releases sind in Planung.

The final album by the Krautrock heroes to be released on CD for the very first time!

"This (final) LP from 1980 was the first one not recorded at Conny Planck's Studio. Instead, the band chose the Dieter Dierks Studios in which the Scorpions and other international rock stars have produced their records. Another reason was the shift from Jurgen Kramer to the Dierks Studios . Jürgen was a very close friend and the life-long-engineer of the band. The compositions reflect the various musical styles of that time significantly . This had led to a personnel change of the band. They did not want to follow the emerging trend of " Neue Deutsche Welle ". Early 1980 also Thomas Schreiber left the band, so only Dorothea Raukes remained as former original band member. Supported by Stephan Jehring (bass), Dickie Hank (guitar) and drummer Bogdan Skowronek, they recorded „Sky Racer“ 1981, the last album of STREETMARK which one more time burnt all advantages of the band on both sides of a vinyl.

1969 formed in Düsseldorf, STREETMARK stirring up the German Rock scenery. They signed a record deal at Hamburg Sky Label in 1975 and in October of same year the band (cast at that time: Dorothea Raukes (Keyboards, vocals), Hans Schweiß (drums), Georg Buschmann (vocals), Thomas Schreiber (guitar) and Wolfgang Westphal (bass)) met in the studio to record the debut album. "Nordland" which has been published 1976 and received warm acceptance at the usually reluctant magazine SOUNDS ("..a mixture of baroque keyboard twirls and cool jazzy fooling.."). With the Beatles Coverversion of "Eleanor Rigby" the album had a veritable club hit. The degree of popularity raised tremendously, despite of that they seperated from Buschmann and Westphal and instead hired Wolfgang Riechmann (vocals) and Manfred Knauff (bass). With this new cast STREETMARK recorded the second album „Eileen“ in 1977, which presented itself as a complete synthesis out of elements from electronic rock, classic, hardrock, as well as funk and symphonic sound elements. Also in foreign countries the band received notice. The British New Musical Express for example discovered some similarity with NEU! as well as with progressive bands like CAMEL. Again despite of this raising success Wolfgang Riechmann together with drummer Hans Schweiß left the band to record his solo album „Wunderbar“, also for Sky Records. It happened that due to a tragic coincidence Riechmann 1978 for no reason has been attacked by hooligans in the old town of Düsseldorf and has been injured by a knife so heavy that he passed away due to this on August 24th.

With the cast Dorothea Raukes, Thomas Schreiber und Bogdan Skowronek, and the help of guest bass player Jürgen Pluta, the band returned to the studio, under direction of Conny Plank, to record album number three. The music turned out to be extremely eager and diversified. Strong electronic and progressive rock influences, melodic, nearly orchestral passages, and with „Lovers“ an enormous danceable scenehit. The future of the band looked very bright but again the cast-carousel was turning …

Parallel to that, hard working Dorothea Raukes published her solo album "Deutsche Wertarbeit", on which she used her visuell impressions of a German journey and turned them into an impressive electronic sound-world.

1981 the last tour of STREETMARK took place, where for the last two gigs guitar player Thomas Schreiber joined the band. Founding member Bernd Schreiber joined all recordings and also live concerts, as sound engineer . After finishing this tour also the head of the band, Dorothea Raukes, returned into civil life.

1990 Sky Records published "Dreams" which was a „best of“ of the last three vinyls but this remains the last sign of life from STREETMARK for long years. But nevertheless, this band has not been forgotten!!
